After watching the World Championship, I've got the taste for a match against someone instead of the various flavours of tournament that we do. Is anyone else interested in, say, a 6 game match?

I'd like to play a match with you Darren. The kind of format I would like would be tournament time controls and 1 game per evening like a usual club game. The match could last weeks if it's just 1 game a week, or a few days if it's a game every day.
Preferably the games would be officially BCF graded to make it more interesting.
I'd like to play 10 or 12 games, but I'm open to any suggestions if this seems too long.

I also offered simon a 10 game match recently and we're looking into that.

I think I got a taste for a match after the Topalov Kramnik match as well.
If anyone's interested in such a match then please let me know at chess club or on this forum.

I accept your challenge Darren if that is an open challenge.

I like the sound of this. Wd suggest time controls as close to the Congress as possible; obviously, players wd need to start really promptly.

Me and Simon are playing a match of first to 6 points, and the time controls are 100 minutes for 40 moves then 20 minutes to finish. I'd be interested in playing a match against someone else at the same time as the latter match is 1 game per week at most. If anyone would like a match of say best of 12 or first to 6 points with tournament time controls, and probably at the rate of about 1 game a week, then please let me know. We'd have to arrange venues, (the match with Simon is in his workshop), but that shouldn't be a problem. I have a board and set, and I'm going to try and get a clock, but I'm sure we can borrow one from the club if need be. As for the match being ECF graded, I haven't looked into that yet and I'm not too bothered; these matches would just be good from a training point of view.

I'm interested. Would prefer time control along lines of club matches as this is what we play week in week out. Further to other post - Fisherandom chess would be good as well if not. Barrie

Hi Barrie. Club time controls would be fine by me; as long as it is standard time controls of some kind, (i.e. not rapid or blitz). How does a standard time control match of first to 6 wins (or points if you like) sound? This would be at the rate of about a game a week. On the Fischerandom side, it would be cool to play some faster games of that to get some practice with the game and then in the near future to consider a match.

So here are the conditions I suggest for a match:

1 game per week approx

league time controls

First to 6 wins (draws not counting) - (or if you prefer, half a point each for a draw and first to 6 points)

I can host half (or more if it's convenient) of the games in my conservatory or garage, and I have a standard league/tournament board and pieces, but I don't have a clock yet.

I've thought of another idea for training games: a double round-robin with standard league time controls. If there are 5 people for example, there would be 8 rounds, (playing every other person twice; once with white and once with black). This would be another thing played at about the rate of a game a week. I'd be happy to do the organisational side like keeping a table of results.
